I tested this in PSP7 and PSP8 and it works in both.

What you will need for this tutorial:

Paint Shop Pro (Trial Version)
Japanese Designs (or any flower font)
Butterfly Font
A font of your choice.
Unzip your downloads into a folder. You don't have to put them into your fonts in Windows. Just make sure they are open and minimized and you will be able to use them.

STEP 1:

Create a new image 500x500, transparent background. Set your foreground color to gradient (I used rainbow pastel) in PSP8. Background is set to null.

For your gradient, set it to radial, angle=0 repeats=3.

Select your preset shapes and set to ellipse, antialias check and vector checked. Stroke set to 10.

Draw out a circle starting at 100, 100 to 400, 400. If you didn't get it quite right, go to Objects--Align--Center in Canvas. (This is why I use vectors, *S*.) Right click on the layer in your layer palette and convert to a raster layer. You should have something like this now.

STEP 2:

Have your fonts open and minimized on your task bar. Click on the text tool, select the Japanese Designs font (or whatever flower font you are using) set to size 150. Flip your gradient to the background. In PSP8 set stroke to 0, in PSP7 set foreground to null. Vector should be checked so that you can manipulate the font afterwards.
I used the upper case T. Others that worked were the G, H, K, M, R, and U. Again, right click on the layer in your layer palette and convert to raster layer. You should now have something like this.

STEP 3:

Change your font to the butterflips or whatever butterfly font you have chosen. Leave vector checked and the size at 150. Choose any letter that suits you. I chose lower case a, rotated it and moved it down to the edge of the circle. Right click on the layer in your layer palette and convert to raster layer. You should now have something like this.

STEP 4:

Now for the text. First we need to change the gradient to linear, angle=90.

Change your font to the Stencil Sans, size will be according to what you are going to type. I used 48 and manipulated the vector until it was inside the circle.

STEP 5:

Each of your layers will need an inner bevel. The settings are the pillow preset.

Click on each layer and apply the inner bevel by going to 3D Effects--InnerBevel and the pillow preset. You can also use Edit--Repeat after the first layer. (Remember not to use the innerbevel on your background layer.)

STEP 6:

Each of your layers will also need a drop shadow. The settings I used were horizontal and vertical = 1, Opacity = 100 and Blur = 3, color = black.

STEP 7:

Turn off your background layer by clicking on the eyeglasses. Make sure one of your other layers is active, right click and merge visible.
Go to Edit--Copy, Edit--Paste as a new image. Add a new layer to this new image by going to your layer palette and clicking new layer or layers--new raster layer. Move this layer to the bottom by dragging it in the layer palette to the bottom or going to layers--arrange--send to bottom. Flood fill this layer with a color of your choice. Click back on your merged layer and repeat the drop shadow again for a more defined image. Save as a jpg or gif of your choice.

Here are a few others I created using different gradients and a solid color.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, as much as I did creating it for you.
